And We’re Off!

July 10, 2010

We’re off to the Legends of Rodeo show at Propaganda.

If we were sticking around the FTL, we would definitely head over to IWAN’s Bubble warehouse for the Celebration of Creation party.

Tonight! Lake Worth or Bust!

May 29, 2010

We’re so excited to hit up Lake Worth tonight! Six great bands will be playing in that little Palm Beach town, and we’re gonna chill up there for my birthday. We even rented a hotel room so that we could party hard and not worry about driving home.  We’re gonna catch this show and see the incomparable John Ralston-fronted Invisible Music, the Dan Bonebrake-fronted Grey & Orange and see what the Northwood Social Club at South Shores Tavern. Northwood Social Club is pretty new, and I’m curious to see what it’s all about. Chris has heard a couple of the tunes before and he says that I, and anyone else who’s planning to attend, should expect good things.

Various combinations of these people will be onstage tonight!

Then, we’re going to head over to Propaganda to catch The Freakin’ Hott, Stonefox and Zombies! Organize!! live. Yes, that Stonefox. Yes, back together. Yes, you should probably already know that. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to miss the Florida Yeah Poor House show tonight with Kill Miss Pretty, Dooms De Pop and Murderous Rampage!

Question

January 6, 2010

Is anyone of my acquaintance planning to go to the Midlake concert at The Social in Orlando tomorrow night? If so, please hit me up on the Facebook. Thanks!

It’s Friday the 13th, and We Should All Probably Stay Indoors This Weekend, But…

November 13, 2009

…some cool things will be happening. Stonefox, The Pretty Faces and The Notary will play at Propaganda in Lake Worth. I have still not seen The Notary — what is wrong with me??

The Pretty Faces at Propaganda

The Hep Cat Boo Daddies are going to play at Maguire’s Hill 16 on Saturday night. That’s a fun place to catch a show — lots of seating and Magners on tap. When was the last time that I saw HPCD? It’s been a while. That might be a nice evening out. Close to home. What not.

Also, the Norman Rockwell exhibit opens at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale tomorrow. From conversations I’ve had about it and information I’ve read about it, this 42-painting exhibit (well, there are other things like Saturday Evening Post covers, sketches, biographical information and works that he made in the 60s depicting desegregation) promises to show many, and surprising, sides of an artist whom most people think they already know.

Did anyone get up at the crack of dawn today to see the Oasis of the Seas come into port?

Commercial Break — Moodvane is Sick

September 27, 2009

Haha, “Fluffy Soft” is a fake commercial from The State comedy show.

So In Love….With Paul

May 3, 2009

It’s Sunday night round about 9 p.m. and I don’t know if you know what that means, but I do. It means it’s In Treatment time! Yay, this is when Sweet Bronco and I eat Big Louie’s and watch Paul shrink heads. This is the best show ever! Oh, make me barf. There’s a cheesy commercial for the next season of the embarrassingly horrible show True Blood. Give me a break, please. I deserve it.

D-Rod at Kim’s – Funny Sentinel Piece

April 24, 2009

This Sentinel snippet on Dennis Rodman’s aborted attempt to chillax at Kim’s is funny…and true. I was trying to wash away the lingering misery from watching Trap with a few tall glasses of water, ;) , at Kim’s Alley Bar on Weds night/Thurs morn when Dennis Rodman came in with a stereotypically sexy female and graciously hello-d everyone at the bar before being talked to death by one relentless guy. A few moments later, we were celebrity free.

Do-Goodism Will Be in the Air Tomorrow, Friday the 13th

March 12, 2009

Tomorrow night, two fine organizations in Fort Lauderdale will be throwing charitable party events. So, if you’re feeling a bit drab and need a pick-me-up, consider the fact that nothing scares away the gloominess of too much self-involvement like helping others and consuming alcoholic beverages.

City Churh Haiti Fundraiser

City Churh Haiti Fundraiser

We all know that Saint Aaron is the Haiti-helping man in South Florida, but the good people at Fort Lauderdale Presbyterian church CityChurch are putting together their own charitable trips to abate suffering on that island.

CityChurch will host a fundraiser party with a silent auction tomorrow night at 7:45 p.m. at Brew Urban Cafe in Victoria Park. This is located in the Winn Dixie shopping center at the corner of Federal Highway and 6th St, between Broward and Sunrise Boulevards. They will auction off various items to raise funds for their first Haiti trip, which will take place between March 26 and March 30. This group is extremely organized and heartfelt. If you’ve ever wanted to help out the people in Haiti but didn’t know how, attend the party or stop by for five minutes and donate to the cause. Dan Franklin is the man in charge.

A Wild Ride to Help Local Charities

A Wild Ride to Help Local Charities

Another opportunity to get charitable — and this one will definitely get you drunk too! — is to attend the Fort Lauderdale Bus Loop. The local trolley buses pick up and transfer attendees to and from the bars and restaurants along the beach and downtown in Fort Lauderdale. I did this with my mom a few months ago, and we had a freaking blast! Charities to benefit from proceeds include: Young Professionals For Covenant House , Jessica June’s Children’s Cancer Foundation, Riverwalk Trust, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Broward County Gator Club Charities. YOLO and Automatic Slims have been included on the loop this time, so it’s definitely going to be a good one.
