This I Like, This I Really Like — Local Bands Different Venues

August 12, 2009

I think it’s pretty essential to the vitality of the live music scene that local bands get plugged in with traveling acts when they play Fort Lauderdale’s bigger venues. All of these local concertgoers who would probably have pride in the bands coming from their neck of the woods if they knew who they were, go out to see touring bands. Why shouldn’t they gain exposure to the best acts in the area while they’re at it? This is normal for most towns. It’s happening in Fort Lauderdale this week. This Saturday night, Stonefox will open for Utah band Days of the New at Culture Room. When I listen to Days’ MySpace page, my ears tell me that this is perhaps not the most appropriate pairing, but it is good that it’s happening. It might be exciting for locals to watch a bigger band get blown completely out of the water by a group that comes from their hometown, and that’s exactly what’s going to happen this Saturday night. Some other local band is playing that night too, but the band screams so loudly on its recordings that I had to close the webpage before I could get its name. Darn.

Also, Ex-Norwegian will play a show on Thursday, August 20th at Musuem of Art Fort Lauderdale. How cool is that? Art and music, which is also art, all together.

The show starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. Good on Roberto Santiago, Director of Communications for the Museum, for bringing this sure-to-be-interesting event to life. It seems like just about everybody loves Ex-Norwegian nowadays: Miami.com, New Times, City Link. But what about the museum? Has anyone checked out the exhibit With You I Want To Live yet?
