Little Things That Are Good To Know About This Town
October 22, 2009
There is no longer any need to continue dating a tech geek in preparation for the off chance that your computer breaks down. Brandon over at Tech Support Wizards is tech boyfriend to the world, and he is not annoying like most tech-savvy people or those pesky albatrosses that we call boyfriends — haha, Sweet Bronco, I am making a joke (but seriously, you should learn how to defrag a hard drive, ok?). I mean, I think I’m in love after what he did for me. Two weeks ago I opened my laptop to start doing some work, and the screen half was wobbling away from the keyboard half like a loose tooth — with exposed wires sticking out of the hinge that holds the thing together on the right side, right next to the power button. I was so screwed. I took my computer to Brandon and he laughed and asked me if I dropped it. I said yes, yes of course, several times of the years over the years — SB’s nickname for me is the destructor. Three hours later, it was totally fixed. It was pretty cheap too! We took a picture together to commemorate the occasion. Here is the picture:
You know what wasn’t cool? I was parked in the same parking lot that this computer store is located in — the Winn Dixie shopping center with a Brew Urban Cafe and Shuck ‘n’ Diveon Federal and 6th — and I left my car there for a couple of hours to ride over to Maguire’s Hill 16. I got back after midnight, and my car had been towed. So, the next morning I was in a tow yard with dogs chained to posts — which I don’t think I’ve seen since I watched Stand by Me, certainly never in real life — shelling out $125 cash to get my car back. Yes, it’s certainly my own stupid fault that this happened, but I’m just giving you fair warning to be aware of this parking lot. The tow trucks roll in at midnight. Don’t get your ace handed to you like I did. The best part abut the whole ordeal was that when I picked up my car, there was a smiley face drawn on the windshield. To me it felt like my, admittedly trivial, hardship was, to someone involved in the process of towing the vehicle, a big, fat hilarious joke.
Also, I’m having a bit of a hard time obtaining one because I’m horrible beyond belief at organizing my paperwork, but did you know that you can get a $5 beach parking card that’s good for one year if you live in Fort Lauderdale? Pretty cool. I’ve probably spent $150 this year on parking down by the beach, so I’m definitely going to get one — maybe it can help offset the expense of last week’s tow adventure.
