Thursday: Local Band Ladies Night in Lauderdale and Reggae in Lake Worth
February 1, 2010
THURSDAY
The week’s end begins with Ladies Night at Lauderdale’s rockabilly headquarters The Monterey Club with A Hunter’s Pace. Female-fronted local band A Hunter’s Place joins Pompano three-piece Retrocities (many people have said they sound quite a bit like Joy Division, and they do) and a burlesque troop called The Reckless Dames for a more-animated-than-usual ladies night. That’s A Hunter’s Pace at Propaganda in the video. I believe it was their first show, but the video shows just how sassy the frontwoman, Sheila, is. She’ll probably be stirring up some trouble at ladies night. OMG, who’s that on drums? Is it Paul, Paul the elusive, majorly talented singer from Quiet River? Yes!!! Radical. Do you like his weird little music videos and melancholy songs? I do. I love them.
If you haven’t checked out The Monterey Club yet, I highly recommend it. It’s very comfortable — my top criterion for just about everything. The venue has only been open under current management since November, but I’ve already seen three quality bands there — including an out-of-town act — and the guys running the place seem sincere about fostering a live music scene and not just focused on selling drinks — although I’m sure they’d like to do that too. Ex-Norwegian and Dreaming in Stereo will play there on Friday night. I think I’m going to go to this Thursday thing. I think that I must see these Reckless Dames for myself. I can’t find much info about them online. Shmee, can we go? Am I in trouble just for asking?
I certainly don’t think we’ll make it up to Lake Worth on Thursday night, but it’s worth mentioning that two pretty kick arse reggae bands , The Resolvers and Roots Shakedown, will play at Propaganda Lake Worth.
