The Sweet Bronco File
Sweet Bronco at Red Bar Gallery (10-02-08) and a video of the SB from Art Serve Red Eye event in (07-25-08).
After watching the final available OnDemand episode of Alan Ball’s new HBO show TrueBlood, which is slowly charming its way into Inkpen’s veins, Sweet Bronco and Inkpen decided to get off the couch and head down to Red Bar Gallery’s Thursday night open mic. Typically, if Sweet Bronco feels like a spontaneous performance, he goes to the incomparably mellow and incomparably nautical Wayfarer Pub on Oakland and Federal — what better place to play his song “Out At Sea”?
Sweet Bronco played “Stand By Me” at Red Bar Gallery. Inkpen has never seen him perform this classic before, so it was a bit of a treat.
Also, just found this supercute video (with closeups of SB chuckling at the event’s boisterous crowd) of the Bronco playing his song (which will likely be on his upcoming album tentatively titled Morning Night) “Out At Sea” at the Red Eye Art Serve event last July. Inkpen and Sweet Bronco will be going to some upcoming events in Ft. Lauderdale. Are you going to these?Let Inkpen know so that she can make a point of saying hello.

“S” to the Double “V” Double “E” “T” to the Bronco and I found ourselves back on the road again. More than just living out a cliche from a Willy Nelson lyric, Inkpen and Bronco take to the road, despite gas prices, to see new scenery, keep our perspectives fresh and to meet new friends to drink with, play with and play for. Plus, there’s nothing like seeing the wild pines and winding rivers and cricks of the South.
After an easy 4 1/2 hour drive (and one speeding ticket – thanks to the eternal construction projects, also known as speed traps, in Palm Beach!), Inkpen and Sweet Bronco rolled into
Around the 8 ‘o’ clock hour, we headed over to ECLiPSE for Sweet Bronco’s show with Jacksonville local band Celestials and an evening with the poptastic sounds of DJ Paul Pop — not to be mistaken for Pol Pot, the less-than-poptastic leader of the mass-murdering Communist Cambodian regime, the Khmer Rouge, who may have been charismatic in his own way, but probably couldn’t take a side on life’s truly burning question: Pulp or Blur?
At ECLiPSE, we met Joe Parker, front man for The Celestials, Dan, the sound man, Steve, the cool signmaker, Lisa, ECLiPSE’s booker and scenester extraordinaire, and, of course, Mr. Pop himself, Paul. We didn’t get much a chance to speak with other Celestials members, Sean Irwin and Jason Leader, but there’s always next time! We had a couple of Yuenglings ($2!) and Inkpen took a few little sippy sips on a Capt. Die.
Sweet Bronco played his standards, such as “North Star”, “Out At Sea”, “Permanent Dream” and an instrumental cover version of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees” on guitar and harmonica. Below: Sweet Bronco singing like a real champ!
Below: Sweet Bronco performs “North Star”.
The Celestials, a three-piece band that sounds like a four, wowed with their full sound and Mr. Parker’s rich, striking voice. Below: A dreamy pic of Joe Parker from the Celestials.

Sweet Bronco takes Orlando’s Stardust Video & Coffee by storm!
June 22, 2008
Sweet Bronco and Inkpen met up with this guy named Zach, Tim of PlainsBasic and Sweet Bronco’s long-time friend Ryan and his crew for an evening of music at Stardust Video & Coffee in Orlando. We also met a nice guy named Eric, who studies under the same UF piano teacher that Sweet Bronco used to study under.

Welcome to Gainesville, Sweet Bronco and Inkpen!
June 19, 2008
(Below) That’s a hella fine view from where Inkpen’s sitting. Two great looking guys, Sweet Bronco (on the left) and Chad (on the right)! Old friends are the coolest friends, esp. when they’re keeping the dream alive like Chad.

Inkpen and Sweet Bronco hung around with some Spanish moss and young rock ‘n’ rollers at a house party/show with Ancient River, Zech’s Marquis and Scum of the Earth in Gainesville, Florida on June 19, 2008. We drove up from Fort Lauderdale that day, and we were pretty tired by the time we arrived. But, there are few things as refreshing as encountering a working keg and some nice people who saw fit to hide a bottle of Captain Morgans in the bushes — booya! Yes, Inkpen sometimes, though very rarely, says, “Booya!”
Spanish moss and ghost orb over head. Inkpen, tighten up that little tum tum! Work it out! Twist and shout. You’ve still got it, girl! Maintain.
Sweet Bronco plays a set in the living room at the house party. Zech’s Marquis sets up in the background. SB played a great set!
At least that’s what Chad thought! He looks impressed, doesn’t he? Chad is Sweet Bronco and Inkpen’s long-time friend and former Gainesville roommate. He’s an insanely talented drummer and an all-around upstanding guy! He’s the drummer for Ancient River, who performed a few songs at the house party, but we’ll have to wait a little while to see them play a longer set. The only thing as great as catching up with old friends like Chad (foreground) is meeting new people like the fox behind him, named Diane, and her great friend in the background there, Gliff.
This is a photo Ancient River rocking the room. Sweet Bronco describes them as Southern rock shoegaze, which is as awesome as it sounds. They’ve got a huge sound and they are really on the cusp of pleasing a lot of music lovers. Chad, Zach and Jaime are awesome guys too! Chad’s on the drums. Zach’s on the left, playing bass, and Jaime is on the right, playing guitar.
There’s a hazy shot of Zech’s Marquis rocking the room. They’re from El Paso and they’re on a national tour, rocking peoples’ faces the hell off. They’re awesome!
There’s Zech’s Marquis again, just jamming on those sticks.
As for what was going on in the yard, it looked a lot like this! The thumbnail gallery below features shots from the various shows and party events that filled our little evening in Gainesville.

After a long night of running from one establishment to another, Inkpen went to see Sweet Bronco play with The Freakin’ Hott and Timb — Timb was supposed to perform his new wave project called The Craven, but had to do an acoustic set b/c of technical difficulties — at the Atmosphere Lounge. All in all, a pretty cool crowd gathered in that little coffee shop. Inkpen got to hang out with Ed Malone and meet Brent Indeed, so that was super duper fun. Unfortunately her camera battery died before The Freakin’ Hott played, which was before Timb played.
That’s the Atmosphere Lounge.
Gear shot!
That’s TIMB chatting with Aaron from The Freakin’ Hott.
That’s Freakin’ Hott Maggie. Inkpen would pay any amount of money to not be on the other end of that glare.

Friday night, Sweet Bronco and Inkpen went to the downtown Fort Lauderdale bar Crazy 8′s. Sweet Bronco played a set, opening for two South Florida bands, Fantastic Amazing, who did a righteous Pixies cover, and Dooms De Pop. Crazy 8′s had a great vibe that night – it’s the first time Inkpen has been inside of the space during its current incarnation. We reconnected with a lot of folks we hadn’t see in a while and had an awesome night.
That blue-shirted fellow right there is Sweet Bronco. He opened up the night.
The maniacs in the photo below are Fantastic Amazing, a fun bunch of guys with tons of energy and great style. They hail from Delray Beach.
Dooms De Pop is pictured down there. True to form, they were a loud, burning ball of chaos. Inkpen thinks that guy in the red pants might just be her new Ravelstein.
